Volume of Major Agricultural Products By County
What does this measure?
These tables show the volume of major agricultural products produced in Hudson Valley counties and New York State in 2007, 2012, and 2022. The indicators include the number of cattle, calves, hogs, and pigs, equine (horses and similar livestock), colonies of beehives, forage production (tons, dry equivalent), and acreage of apples.
Summary Statement
As of 2022, Orange County remained one of the most agriculturally active counties in the region, reporting the second-highest number of cattle and calves (98) and a strong presence in bee hives (437 colonies), forage production (18,458 tons), and apple acreage (1,043 acres). Orange County also had the highest number of equines in 2022 (3,682). However, compared to previous years, such as 2012, the number of equines decreased from 4,499. Neighboring counties fluctuated in numbers, with Rockland having the lowest number of cattle and calves (2) in 2022, and Westchester County having the lowest number of colonies of bee hives in the same year, at 21.
