What does this measure?

This indicator presents the number of farm workers, total payroll, and average wages per worker in Hudson Valley counties and New York State in 2012 and 2022. Wages are reported as totals divided by the number of workers, and values are shown in thousands of dollars for payroll and as dollar amounts per worker.

Summary Statement

In  2012, Orange County reported the highest number of farm workers in the Hudson Valley, although it declined from 2,208 in 2012 to 1,438 in 2022. Despite the drop in labor, payroll increased from $22.99 million to $27.29 million, and the average wage per worker nearly doubled, from $10,410 to $18,976. By 2022, Ulster County employed the most workers in the region at 1,801, with a payroll of $37.77 million and the highest average wage at $20,969 per worker. Dutchess County followed with 1,439 workers and an average wage of $16,131.
