What does this measure?

This indicator presents salary information for full-time public school teachers in Orange County school districts, including Orange-Ulster BOCES. It includes current salary data from 2025, showing the median (50th percentile) teacher salaries in each district. The data also includes historical median salaries from previous school years. The median salary represents the midpoint, meaning half of the teachers earn more and half earn less. This measure allows for comparisons over time and between districts to track growth, equity, and the impact of collective bargaining agreements.

Summary Statement

In 2025, teacher salaries in Orange County show notable variation by district. Median salaries range from $79,263 in Kiryas Joel to $128,823 in Monroe-Woodbury. Districts like Warwick Valley ($119,171) and Goshen ($108,878) also rank high, while Highland Falls ($82,657) and Chester ($98,966) fall lower in the range. From 2004 to 2013, most districts saw consistent salary increases, but growth varied. For example, Chester rose from $50,530 in 2005 to $67,637 in 2013, while Cornwall increased from $61,530 to $79,853 in the same period. Generally, salary growth slowed between 2010 and 2013 compared to the five years prior. It’s expected that by 2025, some districts will display strong upward movement in pay, reflecting local priorities, bargaining power, and district budgets.
