Public School Annual Attendance Rates
What does this measure?
This indicator measures the annual attendance rates of students in public schools across Orange County, New York, from the 2004–2005 school year to 2023–2024. Attendance rate is the percentage of students who attend school regularly and is a key measure of student engagement and school performance. The data tracks each district’s rates over time and includes a column indicating whether attendance improved from 2004 to 2024.
Summary Statement
Overall, the data reveals that most districts have remained relatively consistent in their attendance rates over the years, generally ranging between 92% and 96%. However, very few districts showed consistent improvement across all time intervals. In fact, many districts experienced slight declines in recent years, especially from 2011–2012 to 2023–2024. For example, while Chester Union Free School District showed a fairly consistent trend between 2004 and 2012, it began to show small decreases between 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, dropping from 95% to 93%. Similarly, Warwick Valley Central School District remained constant between 2009-2012, then decreased in 2022-2023 to 92%, and remained at 92% from 2023-2024.
