Divorces and Number of Children Affected
What does this measure?
This indicator measures the number of divorces and marriages, as well as the number of children affected by divorces, in several Hudson Valley counties. The data covers select years between 2004 and 2022.
Summary Statement
The data shows an overall decline in both divorces and marriages across the Hudson Valley over the periods measured. For example, Orange County recorded 941 divorces in 2004 compared to 933 in 2022, while Westchester County saw a drop in marriages from 5,056 in 2004 to 4,379 in 2022. Although the total number of divorces decreased in several counties, the number of children affected by divorce has remained consistent over time. Statewide totals also reflect fewer marriages and divorces compared to earlier years, with a stable and consistent number of children affected by divorce.
