Self-Harm Attempts (Ages 15-19)

What does this measure?

This indicator tracks the number and rate (per 100,000) of hospitalizations due to self-inflicted injuries—which include serious self-harm attempts—among youth ages 15–19 across New York State and Hudson Valley counties. The data is presented as three-year averages for four periods: 2016–2018, 2017–2019, 2018–2020, and 2019–2021. These figures reflect the severity of adolescent mental health struggles and highlight how frequently youth are being hospitalized for self-harm. Monitoring these trends is essential for evaluating mental health services, early intervention programs, and overall youth well-being in the region.
