Electricity Substations
What does this measure?
This indicator tracks electricity generation, consumption, and related infrastructure for several Hudson Valley counties. The data summarizes annual electricity generation (in terawatt-hours or gigawatt-hours), annual consumption (in millions of British thermal units, MMBtu), and the number of power plants and electricity companies on file for each county.
Summary Statement
The data reveals significant variation in electricity activity across counties. Orange County has the highest annual generation at 5.6 TWh and annual consumption of 44.6 million MMBtu, supported by 53 power plants and 38 companies. In contrast, Ulster County generates only 140.8 GWh, consumes 524.1 thousand MMBtu, and has 23 power plants and 16 companies. Westchester County shows relatively low generation (428.7 GWh) but maintains 31 power plants and 29 companies. These differences highlight the uneven distribution of energy infrastructure and usage among Hudson Valley counties. Statewide, New York reports 12.05G MMBtu total generation, 14.14G kWh in sales, and $3.22B in revenue, with 1,281 power plants and 635 companies on file.
