Average Employment Growth

What does this measure?

This indicator reflects the changes in average employment in Orange County and the Hudson Valley between 2014 and 2024. Employment here includes all individuals who worked at least one hour for a wage or salary, or were self-employed, or were working at least 15 unpaid hours in a family business or on a family farm during the week including the 12th of the month. Those on vacation, other kinds of leave or involved in a labor dispute were also counted as employed.

Summary Statement

Orange County’s employment in 2024 was slightly lower than in 2023 and 8.5% higher than ten years earlier. Sullivan County (14.5%) and Westchester County (15.8%) saw the largest increases in average employment while Ulster County grew the least (0.5%) during the same 10-year period.
