What does this measure?

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation issues SPDES (State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permits to control the quality and character of wastewater and storm-water discharges in accordance with the Federal Clean Water Act. The SPDES Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP) regulates stormwater discharges associated with industrial activity from a point source. The MSGP covers thirty one different industrial sectors which include activities such as mining, land transportation, and scrap recycling. This table covers data from 2020 through 2025.

Effective: Permit has been issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and is in force, legally authorizing a facility's wastewater or stormwater discharges.

No Exposure: All industrial materials and activities are completely protected from precipitation by a storm-resistant shelter. This exclusion allows facilities to be exempt from needing an NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit for stormwater, but it requires a certified declaration that all potential pollutants are covered and are not exposed to the elements, with submissions typically required every five years.
