Deaths Due to Heart Disease
What does this measure?
This table shows the annual number of deaths due to heart (cardiovascular) disease across Hudson Valley counties—Orange, Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester—as well as New York State overall. Data is provided for selected years: 2004, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, allowing for the observation of trends in heart disease mortality over time.
Summary Statement
Heart disease deaths generally declined across New York State and most Hudson Valley counties from 2004 to 2022, with some fluctuations. New York State decreased from 52,131 deaths in 2004 to 2,740 in 2022 (note: later years reflect partial data). Westchester County consistently reported the highest numbers, peaking at 2,369 deaths in 2004 and reaching 1,915 in 2022. Dutchess County showed an upward trend in recent years, rising from 619 deaths in 2004 to 772 in 2022, while Orange County remained relatively stable, ending at 648 deaths in 2022. Other counties, such as Ulster and Sullivan, experienced slight increases toward the end of the period.
