Diagnosed STD by Age
What does this measure?
This indicator shows the number of diagnosed sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among two age groups—15–19 and 20–24—as well as the combined total for 15–24-year-olds in Hudson Valley counties (Orange, Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester) for the years 2020 and 2023. This data helps compare STD prevalence among younger populations across counties and over time.
Summary Statement
STD diagnoses remain highest among younger age groups, particularly those aged 20–24. Between 2020 and 2023, trends varied by county:
Hudson Valley overall saw a slight increase from 3,134 cases in 2020 to 3,224 in 2023.
Westchester County reported the largest numbers, rising from 1,258 cases to 1,442.
Orange County decreased slightly from 650 cases to 604, while Dutchess County remained stable at 430 cases.
Smaller counties like Putnam, Sullivan, and Ulster showed modest increases.
These patterns highlight the continued concentration of STD diagnoses among young adults and the need for targeted prevention efforts.
