Births to Teen Mothers: Ages 10-14
What does this measure?
This indicator tracks the number and rate of births to mothers aged 10 to 14 across New York State and selected Hudson Valley counties. Rates are expressed per 1,000 females in this age group and reported in overlapping three-year periods from 2011–2013 through 2019–2021. The measure helps monitor trends in very early adolescent pregnancies over time.
Summary Statement
Births to mothers aged 10–14 have declined across New York State and most Hudson Valley counties during the periods shown:
New York State: The rate decreased from 19.5 per 1,000 females (12,441 births) in 2011–2013 to 10.0 (5,873 births) in 2019–2021.
Dutchess County: Declined from 10.5 (119 births) to 6.2 (65 births).
Orange County: Dropped from 18.5 (255 births) to 0.1 (1 birth).
Putnam County: Reported 0 births throughout all periods.
Rockland County: Maintained very low rates, ending at 0.1 (1 birth) in 2019–2021.
Sullivan County: Remained low, ending at 0.3 (1 birth).
Ulster County: Declined from 0.2 (1 birth) to 0.1 (1 birth).
Westchester County: Consistently low, ending at 0.0 (0 births) in 2019–2021.
Overall, these trends show a significant statewide and regional reduction in births among very young adolescents, with most counties reporting near-zero levels by the latest period.
