What does this measure?

This indicator measures the number of reported collisions in Orange County involving cars and trucks with pedestrians and bicyclists. It tracks both pedestrian-vehicle and bicycle-vehicle crashes over time, highlighting changes in frequency and severity.. Fatalities and serious injuries are also monitored to provide insight into long-term safety trends.

Summary Statement

In Orange County, the total number of collisions decreased from 204 in 2010 (which included 146 pedestrian-vehicle collisions and 58 bicycle-vehicle collisions) to 159 in 2023 (121 pedestrian-vehicle and 38 bicycle-vehicle collisions). The lowest number of collisions recorded was 133 in 2021 (97 pedestrian-vehicle and 36 bicycle-vehicle collisions). Pedestrian Fatalities have remained low, with reports of 3 in 2010, 3 in 2012, a peak of 6 in 2015, 2 in 2019, 3 in 2021, and 2 in 2023. There were no bicyclist fatalities during these years.
