Conditions of Bridges | Orange County

What does this measure?

This table tracks the condition of bridges in Orange County by decade of construction using New York State’s bridge rating scale for 2011 and 2014. It shows the percentage of bridges rated structurally deficient or in poor condition, along with the age distribution. In 2025, the state changed how bridge conditions are measured, though some comparison can still be made at the county and municipal level.

Summary Statement

By 2025, Orange County's reports will show conditions by municipality rather than county wide ratings. The municipality with the highest number of bridges in poor condition is the Town of Montgomery, which reported that 18 out of its 23 bridges are rated as in poor condition, leaving 5 bridges rated in good condition. While Montgomery also has a significant number of bridges in poor condition, other municipalities reported fewer issues. Each of the other municipalities in Orange County reported having more bridges in good condition than in poor condition, highlighting that, generally the overall infrastructure in the county remains sound. Some municipalities, like the Town of Goshen, which has a total of 18 bridges, reported having 0 bridges in poor condition.
