This indicator tracks housing availability and occupancy in Orange County, including the total number of housing units, the number of occupied and vacant units, and the division of occupied units between owner-occupied and renter-occupied households. The data covers selected years from 2010 through 2024.
Summary Statement
The total number of housing units in Orange County increased from 137,107 in 2010 to 152,422 in 2024, while the number of occupied units grew from 124,627 to 141,127 during the same period. Vacant units fluctuated slightly, decreasing from 12,480 in 2010 to 10,657 in 2020, then rising to 11,295 in 2024, keeping the overall occupancy rate high.
Between 2017 and 2023, the share of owner-occupied homes rose from 66.4% to 69.3%, before declining to 66% in 2024.
