Age of Wastewater Treatment Plants
What does this measure?
The table shows the average age for wastewater treatment facilities in the Hudson Valley Region.
Summary Statement
Many of the facilities are older and the average age of facilities is over 50 in all but in one county. For the Region, the average age of a facility is 56, which is also Orange County’s average. A wastewater treatment plant over 50 years old is likely to have outdated infrastructure and technology, leading to higher maintenance costs, reduced efficiency, and greater risk of mechanical failure or environmental noncompliance. Aging systems also struggle to meet modern water quality standards and handle current population and industrial loads.
