What does this measure?

It captures both the raw number of incidents and the youth arrest rate annually, offering insight into impaired driving behavior among young people over time.

Summary Statement

From 2017 to 2022, youth DWAI arrests declined across New York State, with the statewide rate dropping from 36.8 to 21.2 per 10,000 population. Orange County followed this trend, decreasing from 65.9 in 2017 to 56.8 in 2022, despite experiencing a low point of 53.5 in 2021. In contrast, Westchester County saw a significant increase in more recent years, rising from 20.3 in 2020 to 31.5 in 2022. Out of all Mid-Hudson counties, Rockland County boasted the lowest rate in 2022 with 25.8, while Ulster had the highest at 141.7.
